Donor Expense Reimbursement Reimbursement for Donation-Related Travel & Dependent Care Costs
Donor Shield offers living donor financial assistance to cover donation-related expenses for travel, lodging, and meals for the donor and an accompanying caregiver, as well as dependent care (for children or adult dependents of the donor) and pet care when the donor is away from home during the donation process.
Donors covered by Donor Shield are eligible for reimbursement of donation-related travel, lodging, meals, and dependent and pet care costs up to a maximum of $6,000. No financial or income information is required from the recipient, and eligibility is not tied to income for either the donor or the recipient.
- Receipts are required for reimbursement, including dependent or pet care provided by a care facility. If care is provided through an individual and a receipt for services cannot be produced, the donor will be asked to sign an affidavit as part of the reimbursement process.
- All receipts must be submitted together within 60 days of the donation surgery.
- All reimbursements are made via ACH. If proper documentation has been submitted, reimbursement will be made within 10 days of donation. Failure to submit proper documentation in advance of donation may delay reimbursement.
- Please note that travel and dependent care reimbursement is available up to the maximum amount for both kidney donation and liver donation. Double living donors can claim up to the maximum amount for each donation.
